Corporate Events: from Snoozefest to Success

If you have been to many corporate events, I am sure that you have stories. Some are a success, others are an absolute bore. Sure, there are many factors at play here. Who is attending makes a huge difference, as does the culture of the department or workplace hosting the event. But music can make a monumental difference when it comes to the atmosphere of a corporate event.

Working in Canberra, I often play corporate gigs. Government departments frequently host events and book live bands or DJs to provide entertainment. There are a few factors to consider when it comes to making the music at your event a success.

Firstly - what atmosphere are you trying to create? Pick a musician lineup or DJ for that atmosphere - and TELL the band or DJ what you are looking for. If you are hoping to keep it classy and light, communicate it to your band.

But if you are looking to get a real party going, one of the best things you can do is give the band or DJ permission to rock the event. Entertainers will typically try to walk a fine line at corporate events, and so if you want them to bring the party, you need to tell them! You also need to give your people permission to party (to an extent.) Obviously we don’t want things getting out of hand, but some permission to have a good time can go a long way.
